This has to be the craziest week of my life! I find out about all of my college decisions by Saturday, and it’s eating me alive. While this is definitely adding to my stress, school and extracurriculars have really been pilling on. Many scholarships are due Friday, and I’ll be attending a leadership symposium on Thursday night. Not only that, but I’m competing in the Pittsburgh Regional Science Fair on Friday (my project still isn’t done). Bright and early Saturday morning, I’ll be downtown yet again to participate in the Perry Outreach Program. Did I mention I also work Friday/Saturday night and Sunday morning? I know I’m going to crash pretty soon, but I wanted to keep you all updated on my life!
As I talked about a few weeks ago, my mom and I have really been trying to eat better. We both agree that we feel much more energized, and I’ve even noticed my skin is clearing up. Honestly, it got a lot easier to resist the temptations of sweets after about two weeks. When I am craving something, I try to eat a small snack. My favorite has been a sliced banana with granola and honey. It’s a healthier way of satisfying my sweet tooth. As far as breakfast is concerned, I’ve gotten really into smoothies and smoothie bowls! For dinner, we’ve been having a lean protein like chicken with a small serving of rice and vegetables. Eating out is difficult, but I usually opt for a simple dish with plainly stated ingredients. I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve cheated a few times, but I look forward to making healthy choices. Scroll for yummy meal inspiration!
I know I’ve written about music before, but it’s become such a huge part of my day. I (and I can’t stress this enough) love Hozier. His new album “Wasteland, Baby” is on repeat in my head. Every commute is accompanied by Almost (Sweet Music) or Dinner and Diatribes depending on my mood. Please, for your sake, give it a listen! There’s so much variety in the moods of his songs, but a similar style is maintained in each of them. His voice is ridiculous. I was hoping to see him when he came to Pittsburgh, but sadly it’s sold out already. Hozier, if you’re reading this, help a girl out.
You’ve heard what I’ve been eating and what I’ve been listening to, but I’m sure you’re wondering what I’m actually up to these days. Quite honestly, I’m doing a little bit of everything. I’ve had so many tests as the term comes to a close, so I’ve spent days at my desk. I finally cracked into my spring candle, and boy does it feel good. I’ve completed about 20 scholarship applications, but still have many more to do. I found out I won one from Comcast, and I’m really excited to be hearing back from even more. I’ll be blogging again later this week as an entry to the Toptal Scholarship. Beyond school and scholarships, I’ve been working a ton. Hamill and Cenacolo have really become second homes. With all this hard work, my mom decided to pamper me with a facial and day of shopping. I had a great experience at Aestique in Shadyside, and would recommend them for your next spa day. It feels great to take care of myself with all that I have going on.
I know this post was a bit jumbled, but my head is too! I hope to be getting back to you with great news about my college decisions next Tuesday! Please keep me in your prayers. As my life slows down a bit, I’ll be back with more exciting content. Until then, remember to keep busy and organized, but don’t forget to treat yourself every once in awhile. Give Hozier’s new album a listen, and eat well!
Stay Classy,
Maya

Hi Maya
You are a busy girl. No wonder I never see you neighbor. I hope you get in the college you want. I am saying a prayer for you. You deserve all the good things in life. I also enjoyed your food life. That smoothie bowl looked fabulous. You and your mom and I will have to enjoy one of those this summer on the porch. Happy Spring🙅🏻♀️💕🙏
